It’s Not Too Late

Is your life a mess because of some bad decisions you’ve made? Have you gotten away from God? Has your life become one giant whirlwind of disaster because you thought living for what you wanted was better than obeying God and letting Him give you what He wanted you to have? Take heart because many people have been right where you are, including me. The good news is, it’s not too late to make a change and recover the peace, joy and fulfillment that makes life worth living.

Let me explain what I mean. Read the following verses from James chapter 1 in the Bible:

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
– James 1:12-17

These verses describe the process that takes place when our lives become a mess because of sin. Here is a simple breakdown of the process:

1. Life is going to include trials or difficult times. Not all trials are the result of sin, however, when we go through those trials we can be tempted to respond the wrong way and that can lead to sinful action or reaction.

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

2. The temptation to react or respond the wrong way during difficulty is not initiated by God. On the contrary, when trails come our way God offers to help and lead us through them if we will trust Him and do what He says. The problem occurs when we don’t trust God and choose to deal with it our way. That is when sin occurs.

“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.”

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” – 1 Corinthians 10:13

3. The first step in making a bad decision (going down the road of sin) is being pulled away from what God says by our own sinful desires. These are those thoughts that say, God’s way won’t work so I have to rely on what I want instead of what God says.

“But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.”

4. The next step is when we actually make that bad decision produced by the wrong thought process. This is the actual act of sin. In essence we disobey God and do what we want to do.

“Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, …”

5. The final step in the process is the continual life of sin that is lived because of the bad decision that was made. You see our life is nothing more than a story written by the decisions we have made, both good and bad. If we never do anything to correct those bad decisions, the ultimate result of sin is death.

“… and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.”

6. The good news is, sin does not produce death until it is fully grown. If you are still alive, sin in your life is not fully grown. That means you still have time to do something about it. God wants to give us the good in life. Therefore he sent Jesus to die on a cross and thus pay the penalty for ALL of our sin. That is not just the sin we committed in the past but all of the sin we would commit in the future. We can be forgiven and our lives can be turned around so that we enjoy the life God intended for us. Look at these verses:

Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” – John 10:10

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:7-9

So you see, it’s not too late to make a change. Realize that God loves us no matter what we have done and wants to bring us back to Himself. He wants to bless our life with peace, joy and goodness. All we have to do is repent (turn around from the path we have been living), ask God to forgive us (HE will), then start living life by obeying God’s Word and making wise decisions. You will not only experience life like never before, but now you will be able to tell others about what God did for you and help them to experience the same transformation.

“Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.” – Psalm 51:7-13

I am writing this to you because God turned my life around and He will do the same for you!
