“I Hate My Job”

“I Hate My Job” Have you ever said or thought that? Are you feeling that right now?
Have you ever taken the time to think through why you hate your job or what you might be able to do to change it? Don’t feel bad. We are not the only humans to think that.
In Ecclesiastes chapters 2 & 3, Solomon, the wisest man on earth at the time (Ecclesiastes 1:16), is reflecting on life and he says this, “So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind” (Ecclesiastes 2:17). “What does a man get for all the toil & anxious striving with which he labors under the sun?” (Ecclesiastes 2:22).
Does that sound like a man that loved his job? He was frustrated because he did not get satisfaction from his job. He had plenty of money (Ecclesiastes 2:4-11). So what is the key to having a job that we can be satisfied and happy with? Consider these thoughts of instruction from God through Solomon:
1. God wants us to be happy & find satisfaction (fulfillment & peace) in our work – (Ecclesiastes 2:24, 3:12-13). Money is not everything (Hebrews 13:5).
2. A job that brings satisfaction is the gift of God, not the result of our accomplishments – (Ecclesiastes 2:24-25; 3:13). God gives us the wisdom & knowledge to be successful – (Ecclesiastes 2:26)
3. Our main focus is to please God not ourselves. Focus on doing the right thing (Psalm 37:3a), hard work (Ecclesiastes 9:10a), & honoring God (1 Corinthians 10:31). Everything else will come.
4. God has a plan & is at work, so be content & trust Him. Too often we “jump ship” to another job before we give God a chance to “make all things beautiful in t’s time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Be content & live within your means!
So, if you are frustrated with your job, take some wise advice from God through Solomon. Re-think how you approach your job & give God a chance to work!

By the way, I love my job!!!!
